March Madness Part 1: South By Southwest

And no we are not referring to football.

Evil Pastry Studios and the Celestial Rogues rocked the month of March with one of two huge events!

First, let’s head back over to Austin, Texas for South By Southwest. For those of you that do no know what South By Southwest is, it is one of the largest events in the country! Is is a festival which encompasses a Music, Film, and Interactive portion. The event usually falls during Spring Break and lasts for a week and a half!

Evil Pastry all set up and ready to kick of at SXSW 2012!

So, now you might be wondering…What was Evil Pastry Studios and the Rogues doing out there? Well, as apart of SXSW Interactive, Evil Pastry Studios had the opportunity to be apart of the SXSW Screenburn Arcade which is where a number of video games companies came to show off their gadgets and EVP was their to host their first ever Cosplay Competition!

The team got a chance to meet several Game Representatives such as the creators of: Star Hawk, and Fire Fall. The team even had a chance to test the games out. But that’s not all! There were some other companies that made an appearance like Intel ( who hosted a huge lan party), Funimation, Borglar, Game Over, Aleinware, and more! The team was also interviewed by IGN, Morgan Webb, Dailymotion, Forbes, and several others. We even had some of our team pose as models for a live drawing session hosted by Wacom!

Costumer Jessica Nigri with Evil Pastry Studios

We even got to meet some celebrities Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery from the Boondock Saints, Axel Alonso and Peter Phillips from Marvel comics, Precious Cosplay, and the face of the new game Lollipop Chainsaw and costumer, Jessica Nigri!

Sunday was our big day and our longest day! We hosted the first ever SXSW Cosplay Competition which was very well received by the audience and the cosplayers that participated. Shortly after the cosplay contest, The ScreenBurn Arcade came to a close with an after party, the Power Up party. All the participants had a chance to attend where the band Motion City played live!

We would like to send out a huge thank you here at Evil Pastry Studios to all of our friends, Funimation and IGN for the prizes, cosplayers, and family that came out to support us at this event!

And a huge Congratulations to all the contest winners we hope you all enjoyed and see you next year!

Clockwork Con and Twisted Gears 2012

We have been pretty behind when it comes to blogging but with the fast approaching summer season we figure we would go ahead and post what we have been up to for the past few months.

Whew! Evil Pastry Studios has really been kicking it off event wise since the beginning of this year!

Tik tok went the clock! In January, some of the team headed out to Austin, Texas to attend Clockwork Con which was awesome for a first time convention and Austin’s first steampunk convention! The staff was so cool, extremely helpful, and well organized! The team had the chance to host a a few different panels, participate in a steampunk LARP, and had a chance to mingle with some of the special guests like Airship Isabella,Marquis of Vaudville and Steam Powered Giraffe! Which, if you have not heard of either group, definitely check them out! As usual, it was great to see some familiar faces and of to meet some new ones. We would like to thank Alex and Tiffany for coordinating and allowing for such an amazing convention to take off.

Also, our steampunk project, Celestial Rogues hosted a couple of panels which we would like to thank everyone that participated and attended them for with out you all there is no us!

We now shift over to February, EVP’s steampunk project had a chance to co-host an event with the Airship Dionysus called Twisted Gears which took place at the University of Houston. Like Clockwork Con, Twisted Gears was a first year steampunk event! The event lasted for a day and it was amazing for only lasting for a day. Our fashion designer, Jesse Thaxton aka Amaya De Morte showcased her fashion line, and the Celestial Rogues hosted a number of panels. It was really nice to see the Houston steampunk community come together because some people believed it was non existent. We wished it could have lasted longer. It was an honor to co-host this event and we are already making preparations for 2013.

Hello 2012!

The new year has been with us for a little while now but it has kicked off to a great start.

Evil Pastry Studios’ convention line-up was kicked off to a great with Ikkicon/Difference Engine back in January!

The Difference Engine was a steampunk convention that took place in the Dallas area on New Years weekend. The Celestial Rogues project was only able to attend the event on Friday. A couple of panels were hosted by the Rogues which included: Light ‘Em Up Gadgets and Character Creation 101.

Later that evening, at the Difference Engine fashion designer/member of the Rogues, Jesse Thaxton aka Amaya De Morte
showed off her fall fashion collection which was well received.

After attending the Difference Engine in Dallas,The Rogue project then headed down to the good ole’ capital of Texas, Austin to host events at Ikkicon!

At Ikkicon EVP/Rogues hosted a number of panels which included: Web Comic Development 101, Mascoting/Fursuiting 101, Armor and Prop Making, and more! While doing so,the crew also welcomed in the New Year.

Unfortunatly, we were bot able to snag any photographs from the events.
